My phone helps me feel present
Dundas, Ontario… the quint little town and backdrop of many hallmark movies. It’s one of the easiest places to photograph with architecture, character, and aesthetics abound. But this past year I sold my beloved Sony a7c2 and a collection of lenses to focus on iPhone photography.
With the majority of my adventures being spent with my young family, I wanted to live more ‘in the moment’ and there’s something about a dedicated camera body and lens that felt like it was ‘in the way’. So I made up my mind - the iPhone only experiment would begin. My Sony camera was bought by a guy who found the listing on kijiji. Switchback.ash on instagram - super nice guy, and great photographer.
I’ll admit, there have been many concessions made in making the switch. But there’s one benefit that trumps all. During our walk in Dundas today I felt present, connected to my wife, and immersed in my environment. I want to remember these moments, not only through the photos I take, but how I feel when I’m there. From a photographers perspective, my phone helps me do that.
